Learning to distinguish the complex variety of avian utterances in Hawai'i can be a daunting prospect. What we call "Songs" (as opposed to "calls") are the most distinctive and easiest to sort out by species, if we treat each of the main islands separately. So this is my approach here--island-by-island treatment of the songs (or most distinctive sounds) of native forest birds--Just click on the island. To the left of the Map find a page each for Seabirds, Raptors, Waterbirds, Waders, and Aliens found throughout the Islands.

Birds of the Islands:
    • Kauai
    • Oahu
    • Maui
    • Hawai'i Island

These recordings are only examples of the bird vocalizations to be heard in Hawai'i--not a complete inventory, which would include many other kinds of calls (see "Voices of Kaua'i Forest Birds"). Only a few of the species will be "live" at any particular time - I will frequently change the files available for listening.
